Gerald Levert Dead At Age 40

Published: 2006-11-13
Singing sensation Gerald Levert passed away at his home on Friday, November 10, 2006 due to a heart attack. Gerald is the son of Eddie Levert, who was the lead singer of the legendary R&B group the O' Jays.

During his 20 year career, Gerald Levert climbed to success with his songs "Casanova", "Addicted to You", "Just Coolin'", and "Baby I'm Ready" in the late eighties and early nineties. He also released his first full length album entitled Private Line in 1991, which saw the title track hit reach number one on the R&B charts. He released eight full length albums altogether.

Gerald collaborated with his father on the disc called Father and Son and was also a member of the R&B trio, LSG, which starred Johnny Gill and Keith Sweat, which spawned the hit "My Body".

"He was one of the greatest voices of our time÷as well as a tremendously gifted composer and producer," reports. "Above all, he was an exceptional human being whose warmth and grace inspired us all."

Gerald Levert was only forty years old.

I would like to express my absolute sorrow and heart felt blessings to the Levert family. Gerald was a talented and gifted performer and person. In my heart I always thought of him as my own personal Teddy Bear....When he would sing I would imagine he was singing to me and noone else. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANYONE LIKE YOU!!!

I am heart broken...the GBear has gone. Only God knows how much I adored him. It's as if a dream has been killed. I know that God dosen't make mistakes, so who I am I to question him? God has given me the opportunity to be in his presence on four occasions and for that I am greatful... I'm just going to miss him so so much. My heart goes out to his family, as I know his sudden death is tragedy. Through his music he has taught us the value of Love, Family and Closeness...which is something now days we tend to overlook! Let's take a moment and reflect.

Thank You G-Bear, for what you have shared with me, and given to the world. You will be sorely missed. Your number one...

See you in Heaven Baby!

Your DC Family

To the Levert family, My depest sympathy to you all. Eddie, I grew up with you Sammy, and Walter. I was so happy when your kids wanted to be in the " Bizz" I feel your pain and I send my prayers. But just know in your heart of hearts that God had prepared a place for Gerald, that is why he called his name.We dont know how much time we have with the ones that we love. Eddie we should remember that The Father said for us to have life, and to have it more abundently. Gerald did just that! He will be saddly missed, but he did great things because he had a even greater teacher, mentor, friend, and Father.
