Phil Collins Rejoins Genesis for Tour

Published: 2006-11-06
British pop/rock group Genesis is reuniting for and upcoming tour with former frontman Phil Collins.

Collins joined Genesis in 1970 as drummer and backup vocalist to legendary frontman Peter Gabriel. Collins became the new Genesis lead when Gabriel departed in 1975.

Genesis continued to grow in success after the departure of Gabriel and with a more pop oriented sound, they managed to move up on both the American and British charts through the 1980s and 90s with the release of chart topping albums like Invisible Touch in 1986 and Collins' last album with the band We Can't Dance.

While playing with the band, Collins launched a solo career, finally deciding in 1996 to focus solely on his own work, announcing his split from Genesis. After releasing some solo projects Collins went on to win an Oscar and a Golden Globe for "You'll Be In My Heart," the title track to Disney's Tarzan.

Now, according to Billboard, Collins will join former mates Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks for a 2007 tour. An official announcement will be made November 7.

Gabriel and guitarist Steve Hackett, who left in 1977, are not currently involved in the project.
