U2's Vertigo Tour Gets the 3D Treatment

Published: 2006-11-01
Over 700 hours of footage from U2's Vertigo tour has been shot with plans to be made into a 3D film.

Co-directors Catherine Owens and Mark Pellington accompanied the Irish rockers on the tour's stop in seven South American cities earlier this year. All the equipment used to capture U2 live makes the project one of the biggest of its kind.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, a band rep said it was "the first-ever 3-D multicamera live shoot."

The feature length film will be out sometime next summer or fall.

U2 are currently continuing their world tour. Fans can win a chance to see U2 when their tour rolls into Honolulu. Lyrics from the band's upcoming "best of" disc U218 Singles will be posted on various websites following hints from U2's official website. Fans will need to find and collect the highlighted letters to answer a question correctly at U2.com to be entered into the contest.

The contest ends November 6. U218 Singles hits stores November 21.
