R.E.M., Patti Smith are Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees

Published: 2006-10-31
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH announced its list of hall of fame nominees this week. Nominees include Patti Smith, R.E.M., Van Halen, Grandmaster Flash, and the Stooges. Reports say Van Halen and R.E.M. are the safe bets to make the cut with Patti Smith coming in a close second for her involvement in the 1970s CBGBs punk rock scene.

To be eligible, an act must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination for this year's nominees; they would have had to release their single no later than 1981.
