MTV Resurrects Menudo

Before the Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block, Menudo was the boy band that all the girls swooned over. Now MTV wants to resurrect the Latino boy band for modern audiences.

In an MTV reality TV show, the boy band look for five boys ages 15 - 19 with auditions beginning in Puerto Rico and continuing throughout locations in the United States. According to Billboard, "MTV Tr3s, the new channel aimed at U.S. Latinos, will give audition news and updates, as well as air a "Road to Menudo" special before the series debuts on MTV."

It is set to debut on MTV in fall of 2007.

Once the boys are found, the bilingual band will also release their album in fall 2007 with what Billboard describes as a Latin infused R&B sound. Their manger will be Johnny Wright, who has an impressive boy band managing resume having taken the reigns of the New Kids, Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC.

The band will sign to Epic Records, who will take a cut of the band's "byproducts" such as merchandise and other extras.

The band began in the 1980's with its most famous offspring being Latin sensation Ricky Martin. The members of the band are constantly young and youthful because members rotate as they grow older or their voices change.
