David Bowie Meets SpongeBob

David Bowie's career has spanned over 40 years. Now, the rock legend is joining SpongeBob SquarePants at the bottom of the sea.

On his official site, Bowie announced that he made a guest appearance on the popular children's cartoon that tells the adventures of a sponge and his friends under the sea.

"It's happened. At last. I've hit the Holy Grail of animation gigs," he said.

The rock legend lent his voice to a character in an episode entitled "Lord Royal Highness" but the show won't hit television sets for another eight or nine months.

Bowie, who has a six-year-old daughter, said on his site, "Oh Yeah!! We, the family, are thrilled. Nothing else need happen this year, well, this week anyway."

This is not the first acting gig for Bowie. He has appeared in several films over the years, including a famous role as the goblin king in Jim Henson's 1986 cult classic Labyrinth. He can currently be seen in Christopher Nolan's latest picture, The Prestige alongside Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Hugh Jackman.
