My Space Concerts Raise Money with 'Rock for Darfur'

Published: 2006-10-10
Alice in Chains, Ziggy Marley, Jars of Clay and Amos Lee are just some of the MySpace artists playing to raise money and awareness for the crisis in Darfur, Sudan.

On Oct.16, 20 concerts are planned across the U.S. and one in Toronto with portions of ticket sales going to Oxfam's Sudan Crisis Relief and Rehabilitation Fund. "Rock for Darfur" will see musicians from all genres unite for the cause.

"The crisis in Darfur is a global concern and as a global community we have a responsibility to take action," said MySpace CEO Chris DeWolfe in a press release.
"MySpace's reach gives us an extraordinary opportunity to spread the word and empower individuals to help address the horrors in Darfur."
The campaign also features a PSA with Samuel L. Jackson that will appear in theatres and on TV during the month of October. The official MySpace site features footage of actor George Clooney's trip to Darfur, a trailer to the documentary, The Devil Came on Horseback as well as a Darfur Dialogue toolkit that includes information on how people can help.

"Rock for Darfur" is only holding one concert in Canada. The Fray will play Kool Haus on Oct. 21 in Toronto.
