Published: 2006-09-27
Grammy winning international pop sensation Ricky Martin testified before U.S. Congress yesterday (September 26) on the atrocities of human trafficking.

Martin, who is also a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, founded the Ricky Martin Foundation to advocate the wellbeing of children all over the world. One of the foundation's missions is the elimination of human trafficking.

"This is an issue for every country on the planet in 2006," he told the House International Relations Committee. "There isn't a single nation not entangled in child trafficking as a source, a destination or a transit point."

The singer spoke about his personal experiences with the horrors of trafficking in Calcutta, India and urged the U.S. to take a stronger role in ending human trafficking, a practice that according to UNICEF, affects 1.2 million children worldwide.
