Eva Avila Becomes the Next Canadian Idol

Published: 2006-09-18
Quebec's Eva Avila has been named the nation's fourth Canadian Idol.

The 19-year-old, who lists Nelly Furtado as her own Canadian Idol, beat out Newfoundland's 16-year-old Craig Sharpe in the season finale last night.

Nelly Furtado made an appearance on the 90-minute finale along with last year's Idol, Melissa O'Neil and the African Children's Choir.

Avila wowed fans all season with her R&B style and finished the evening by singing her first single "Meant to Fly," written by Canadian husband and wife team Chantal Kreviazuk and Raine Maida.

The single hit airwaves at 12:01 a.m. this morning.
