Gorillaz Tell Band History with 'Rise of the Ogre'

Published: 2006-09-18
Award winning virtual group Gorillaz are using their visual talents to tell the band's story in an upcoming autobiography.

Rise of the Ogre is a 300-page history of the band in colour. The hard-cover book will use photos and art to trace the journey of Murdoc Niccals, 2D, Noodle and Russel Hobbs, the animated characters that make up the band.

The band is the creation of Blur's Damon Albarn and comic-book designer Jamie Hewlett. Albarn and Hewlett are also making headlines for their involvement with "Monkey: Journey to the West," a Chinese circus production. Albarn is creating the score while Hewlett is adding his creative design to the sets.

The book will hit store shelves on October 31, just a day after the release of their DVD, Phase Two - Slowboat To Hades, a collection of performances, videos, interviews and short animated films.
