UK wonder group and Mercury Prize Winners the Arctic Monkeys and Former Frou Frou member and singer-songwriter Imogen Heap are the top nominees for this year's Woodie Awards.

The unconventional awards show is put together by mtvU. The college-based TV station pushes to a slightly different demographic than regular MTV and a more independent music selection.

With three nominations a piece, the two will only be going up against each other in the Breaking Woodie category for the best up and coming artist. The Alumni Woodie award, according to the site, goes to an artist if "they've never forgotten where they came from." Nominees include former indie stars who have hit the mainstream, including Fiona Apple and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

You can head over to the mtvU site to vote for your favourites up until October 20. The actual awards will be handed out on October 25 at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City and mtvU and mtvU.com will broadcast the show on November 2.
