Polaris Finalists Compile Disc

Canada is getting ready to crown their first Polaris Music Prize winner this fall but before they do you can grab a sample CD with tunes from all ten finalists.

Modeled after the UK's Mercury Prize the Polaris Music Prize will be awarded to the artist considered to have the best album of the year between June 1, 2005 and May 31, 2006.

Eleven jurors will decide who will take home the $20,000 prize at an invitation only gala at Toronto's Phoenix on September 18. But in the end the prize won't really be the money but the recognition and buzz created by the award, that in the case of the Mercury prize usually leads to and increase in sales.

If you want to get a taste of the ten artists on nominated for the prestigious prize a compilation CD with songs from each of the ten short listed bands is being released August 22 for eight weeks according to ChartAttack.

Malajube ó "Pate Filo" (from Trompe L'Oeil)
Metric ó "The Police And The Private" (from Live It Out)
The New Pornographers ó "Sing Me Spanish Techno" (from Twin Cinema)
Wolf Parade ó "Shine A Light" (from Apologies To The Queen Mary)
