Heavier Things For John Mayer

Published: 2004-03-18
John Mayer's latest album "Heavier Things" was released last September and since then it has sold 1.5 million copies. But starting next month, at participating stores, anyone who buys a copy of "Heavier Things" will have a "heavier thing" in the bag. "Heavier Things" buyers will get a bonus CD with five tracks from John Mayer. The bonus CD has an acoustic version and a radio edit version of Mayer's current single "Clarity". The songs "Back to Bed" and "Neon" and a cover of Radiohead's "Kid A" are also on the CD. There are two major differences between Mayer's version and the original Radiohead version of "Kid A". While the original song is full of electronic tones, Mayer plays an acoustic version on his guitar. The other big difference is that when John Mayer performs "Kid A" you can understand the words. When talking about the song Mayer said, "if you're gonna do a cover, leave the song somewhere different than where you picked it up."

On tap for John Mayer is a collaboration with country star Brad Paisley for an upcoming episode of CMT's Crossroads. And then a trip down under to New Zealand and Australia where Mayer says there may be a show or two with rock superstar Sting. Mayer admits to the idea of a musical collaboration with Sting is not out of the question, but adds that the superstar would have to do the asking; otherwise it's like inviting yourself over for dinner at a friends house.
