Michael Hutchence's life on film

Published: 2006-08-08
Like Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash and many more before him, former INXS frontman Michael Hutchence's life is being made into a film.

If you never heard of the eighties Aussie rock band INXS before, you definitely heard of them in 2005 when Rock Star: INXS began to air. The show was looking for a replacement for original frontman Michael Hutchence, who passed away in 1997. After Canadian JD Fortune was chosen to front the band, film producer Clark Westerman knew he had to get started on a film version of the former frontman's life, before someone else decided to do it because of the hype for the band that the show drummed up, and do it wrong.

Westerman had been thinking of doing a film for years. According to Reuters, Westerman approached music video director Nick Egan to direct the film saying, "Somebody else is going to do it, and they are not going to do it as well as you would because you knew him so well." Egan directed several INXS videos in the 80's and 90's.

Eventually Egan okay-ed the project named "Slide Away" after a posthumous duet the singer did with U2 frontman Bono.

According to Reuters the pair is currently "sifting through Hutchence's catalog."

No word on who will be cast in the film or when it will begin shooting.
