While other artists fight copyright battles and put copy protection on their CD's to try and stop people from downloading their music for free, Derek Webb is just giving it away.

The singer-songwriter is used to the controversy. After splitting with folk/rock band Caedmon's Call his first record, 2003's She Must and Shall Go Free stirred up some controversy for its strong lyrics.

Now he's at it again offering up his newest record Mockingbird to download for free online. The record release last year will be released again on September 1 on According to a press release, "Mockingbird tackles many sensitive issues including poverty, war, and the basic ethics by which we live and deal with others in a raw way that has made some people uncomfortable."

Relatively unconcerned with the monetary returns, Webb says he just wants people to get a chance to hear the record and "engage in the conversation."
