Barenaked Ladies, Alicia Keys to kick off International AIDS Conference

Published: 2006-07-28
The XVI International AIDS Conference, held this year at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, will get the ball rolling with a benefit concert on August 13.

The star-studded concert will showcase a variety of major performers such as Chantal Kreviazuk, the Barenaked Ladies, Alicia Keys, Amanda Marshall, Our Lady Peace, Blue Man Group, DJ Tiesto and many more.

The concert will follow after the official opening ceremonies that feature Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Mayor David Miller, The Honourable Dalton McGuinty and closing notes by Bill and Melinda Gates.

As the world's largest AIDS conference, this important week-long event has an urgent message. It is expected that more than 20,000 people will participate, attracting scientists, health care providers, journalists and representatives from both governmental and non-governmental organizations. The conference will host an open forum and workshops to discuss ideas and knowledge about AIDS prevention.

Tickets to the concert also offer admission to the opening ceremonies with proceeds going towards the fight against HIV/AIDS through the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research, the Nelson Mandela's Children's Fund Canada and the AIDS Committee of Toronto Community Partners Fund.
