Evanescence bid farewell to bassist

Published: 2006-07-18
Less than three months before the release of their much anticipated new album The Open Door, Evanescence has bid farewell to their bassist William Boyd.

According to a statement on their official website announcing Boyd's departure, frontwoman Amy Lee says, "He said that he just can't go through with another huge tour right now, and wants to stay a little closer to his family instead."

The band lost co-founder, guitarist and principal songwriter Ben Moody suddenly in 2003. The Open Door is the band's first record without him.

But Lee insists that this time the band member's departure was amicable, "Tour is hardóyou kind of have to sacrifice your life for it, so we can all understand. We love Will very much and wish him nothing but happiness in everything he does."

She adds, "We've been playing music together since I was in jr. high. I miss him already!"

Though there is no word on who will replace Boyd, the band plans to have a new bassist in time to tour behind The Open Door which is due out on October 3.
