Jeff Buckley biopic in the works

Nine years after his death, the life of singer-songwriter and guitarist Jeff Buckley will be made into a film.

Though he only released one full-length album, 1994's Grace, prior to his untimely death from drowning in 1997, he made a big impact on the music scene. Grace received much acclaim from both critics and other musicians like Jimmy Page, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney and Elton John.

Buckley's mother Mary Guibert recently announced on Buckley's official website that a film on her son's life was in the works. Though she was initially opposed to the idea she says seeing films like "Ray," "Walk the Line" and "Finding Neverland" make her re-think it.

"I had come to the realization that I did not want someone else to be in control of how the script was written and on what information that script was based," says Guibert.

The film is to be directed by Brian Jun (Steel City) who was approved by Guibert.

"I can tell Jeff's fans with complete confidence that Brian is not the sort of fellow to sugar-coat or manipulate the facts. I've looked into his eyes and I know that he's a straight shooter. There's a depth of character to Brian, surprising in someone so young, and I have seen from his film-making that he has the courage and the skill to do this the way it should be done," she says

Jun is currently doing research and putting together a script which Guibert says should be done some time in the fall. No word on which actors may be cast in the film.
