Nelly FurtadoŪs ŽLooseŪ hits #1 on both sides of the border

Published: 2006-06-29
Nelly Furtado's new album Loose has managed to hit number one on American charts, a first for the Canadian songstress.

Released June 9, Loose hit number one in both Canada and the United States. In the US, Furtado's past albums Whoa, Nelly! and Folklore only managed a 24th and 38th spot respectively while in Canada she hit 2nd and 11th spot. The album has also hit number one in Germany and Switzerland.

The success of Loose rides mostly on the back of her first single "Promiscuous" a duet with hip-hop producer Timbaland. It is also the first single to hit number one for Nelly in the United States although past singles like "I'm Like A Bird," "Turn off the Light," "÷On the Radio," "Powerless" and "Try" all previously hit the top of the Canadian charts.

Though no word has come out about a full tour, she will be making a couple of stops at Canadian festivals this summer:

July 8, Calgary, AB - Calgary Stampede
July 12, Ottawa, ON - Ottawa Bluesfest
