Aerosmith Return to Their Roots

Published: 2006-06-26
Legendary rock act, Aerosmith are polishing off their rock 'n' roll skills once again for a new album that is due out in the spring of 2007. Guitarist Joe Perry says that despite vocalist Steven Tyler's throat surgery, he is in mint condition while in the midst of recording the new album.

"He's sounding better than ever," Perry tells "Even just listening to him talk, his voice has this timbre that I haven't heard in years."

While the group is taking other songwriters' materials into consideration, the band is primarily dipping into their archives for a bit of motivation. Perry exclaims that some of their older work can be easily recognized in current pop culture.

"Some of the material could have been written last week or 10 to 20 years ago. Some it has bell-bottoms and big hair but it's surprising how well it could fit today's play lists."

Some songs that were never released as singles may see the light of day due to their gaining popularity in recent years. The public may not have taken an interest in the songs back in the late 1980s/early 90s but they are now that Aerosmith have been playing them on tour.

Whatever the case may be---old or new---the band has seen its popularity come and go with each album and each decade. Part of the hair band craze in the late 80s and the 'Get A Grip-Alicia Silverstone-revival' in the mid 90s, Aerosmith is yet another rock band that has seen the ups and downs of the music industryůand has lived to tell about it.
