Arctic Monkeys loose bassist for good

Published: 2006-06-22
UK indie band the Arctic Monkeys have bid a permanent farewell to their bassist Andy Nicholson.

Last month the band announced that Nicholson would be taking a break stating, "Owing to fatigue following an intensive period of touring Andy Nicholson shall be taking a rest and will not be accompanying Arctic Monkeys on their forthcoming tour of North America."

The band has been touring like mad since the January release of their much hyped album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not and their first single "I Bet You Look Good On the Dancefloor."

Nick O'Malley, who has been taking over for Nicholson during the North American tour, will be continuing to fill his shoes for the remainder of their summer tour. O'Malley is also bassist for UK rockers the Dodgems. No word on who will take over for Nicholson on a permanent basis.
