George Michael To Retire And Go Online

Published: 2004-03-12
English pop star George Michael has lost his "Patience" with the music business and is seeking "Freedom" by "getting the 'Monkey' off his back" and turning "A Different Corner". Michael's remarks in an interview with BBC Radio was no "Careless Whisper"; the singer-songwriter has said his new album "Patience" – which will be released this spring – will be his last commercially made album.

At 40 George Michael is a multi-millionaire and he says that he "doesn't need any more of the public's money." Michael is the son of a Greek restaurateur who has succeeded and made his mark in music history. In the future any new material by George Michael will be available only through downloading from the internet. And funds raised from the downloaded music are to be donated to charity.

Charity causes will not be the only ones to benefit from Michael's decision; George Michael himself will gain a good deal from his choice of career change. While some are calling the move "retirement from the music business", it is more of a shift from a structured format – CDs – to a less stressful and forced medium – downloaded music.

Under Michael's new career plans, he is free to create without having to produce a product under time constraints and deadlines. He is neither spending nor losing anyone else's money which will distance him from the limelight. In the end George Michael will be a happier man who can concentrate on doing what he does best, make music.

George Michael is not "Kissing a Fool", he has "Everything He Wants"; now it is time to "Heal the Pain" with "Patience".
