Bloc Party halfway finished with new album

Published: 2006-06-12
Bloc Party lead singer Kele Okereke has decided to let fans know how the band's new album is turning out. The band has been working with producer Jacknife Lee, who is known for his work with U2, The Editors and Kasabian. Okereke says that the new album, which will be the follow up to 2005's Silent Alarm, should be completed by summer's end. Okereke told Pitchfork Media that they are not finished recording, but are halfway through. Bloc Party is best known for their single "Banquet" off their Alarm CD.

The band, however you may want to describe them, is best known for their eclectic post-punk avant-garde sound, which puts them outside of the box in pop music culture terms. To put it another way, they are not your average rock band. Hailing from Great Britain, Bloc Party has become rock sensations in their homeland, but has failed to make a commercial breakthrough in the States, thus making them a favourite underground band. But Bloc Party is destined to make ground in America with their new album, which is due by the end of the summer. Some tentative track titles include: "Waiting For 718," "Uniform" and "England." The album's title has yet to be revealed, but expect a city vibe title for their sophomore LP.
