Counting Crows release live record work on new album

Published: 2006-06-09
The Counting Crows are keeping busy.

First of all, the band is heading out on tour with alternative rockers the Goo Goo Dolls all summer. Secondly they will be releasing a live album and to top it all off, the band is working on a new album.

According to an update on their official website from lead singer Adam Duritz, the band spent three weeks in May in the studio recording the "loud half" of the next album. Though they have nine songs done from that session, the tour will keep them from recording "the quieter half" of the record until after the tour is completed in the fall.

"So the record can't possibly be released until early next year. But at least we're on our way," Durtiz says.

But to tide fans over till the follow-up to their 2002 disc Hard Candy the band is releasing a live CD * New Amsterdam: Live at Heineken Music Hall 2003. The live show (whose date and location are fairly obvious if you look at the name of the record) is a mix of tunes recorded by the Crows over the years. The track list includes the tune "Hazy" which Duritz made up on the spot at the show.

"I wrote it and sang it off the top of my head. It's just me trying to express exactly how I felt at that moment. I couldn't' play it now if I tried," he says adding, "It exists there on that tape and nowhere else. That's kind of why I included it. It's the quintessential bootleg moment."

Here's what else you can hear on the disc:

"Rain King"
"Richard Manuel Is Dead"
"Goodnight LA"
"Four White Stallions"
"Good Time"
"St. Robinson In His Cadillac Dream"
"Perfect Blue Buildings"
"Goodnight Elisabeth"
"Hard Candy"
"Holiday In Spain "
