American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry turns down Fuel

American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry turned down a chance to be lead singer of American rock group Fuel.

After singing Fuel's "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)" on the March 1st episode of the talent competition, Daughtry was praised by all three judges and apparently Daughtry's performance also impressed the members of Fuel.

Fuel just parted ways with lead singer Brett Scallions in February and though the split was amicable, the band still needed to find a new member. After Daughtry's surprise boot from Idol on March 10th, it was reported that the remaining members of Fuel, Jeff Abercrombie and Carl Bell offered him the lead spot in the band. But he turned it down.

Though Daughtry hasn't announced any future plans, aside from touring with the rest of the Idol top 10 this summer, he told the Charlotte Observer, "I'm going to be doing my own thing."
