Snow Patrol postpones shows

Scottish/Irish indie rockers Snow Patrol have been forced to cancel three shows on their North American tour due to lead singer Gary Lightbody, well, singing too much.

The boys have been on tour in North America since February and on May 29th Lightbody posted that his voice was deteriorating on the band's official message board.

"When we began the Eyes Open tour in Feb of this year I was told by my doctor a few days before hand that I had laryngitis and it would be best if I took a week off to recover. I told him I didn't have a week as we had shows pretty much every day. All the gigs so far have been a struggle for me. Unfortunately now I can barely hit any notes. My entire upper range has disappeared into a whisper."

Days later he posted that the problem was two "polypoid lesions" on his vocal chords "caused by vocal abuse or over-use and look like little blisters on the chords." As a result his doctor recommended some medication and complete vocal rest which forced the band to cancel dates in Atlanta, Washington DC and Boston.

The band hopes to reschedule the dates to either the end of the tour or in August. All tickets bought for the original show will be valid for the rescheduled dates.

Lightbody says that his doctor informed him that they caught the lesions in time and that he should make a full recovery. But he promises to look after himself more in the future.

"I am so very sorry about all this. It is completely my fault for not taking better care of my voice. The voice is an instrument and I should learn to take care of it as such. When I have it back and working again I won't take it for granted anymore."
