Prince gets a Webby

Though Prince has received heaps of praise, awards and accolades for his music, this summer he'll be given a lifetime achievement award for his use of the internet to promote his music.

The tenth annual Webby Awards will be held on June 12th at Cipriani Wall Street in Manhattan. The Webby is "the leading international award honoring excellence in Web design, functionality and creativity," according to their official website.

Prince is being awarded for his website According to the Associated Press the site has more than seven full-length CDs worth of music, only available on the website. The artist has also released his 1997 album "Crystal Ball" exclusively online.

"Long before MySpace and iTunes, Prince used the Web as a way to distribute music, premiere videos and build his relationship with his fans," the Webby Awards site states.

Winners will be announced in 65 categories including site awards for activism, fashion and podcasts. was awarded Webby Breakout of the year and the digitally animated Gorillaz named Webby Artist of the Year.
