James Blunt banned

It's every musician's dream to write a tune that will stick in the hearts and minds of fans all over the world. UK singer songwriter James Blunt has done just that with tunes like "You're Beautiful" and "Goodbye My Lover" but his success has begun to backfire.

On May 19 UK radio station Essex FM issued a ban on the two mega successful James Blunt singles and the artist himself for the time being.

Some say the ban is in response to Blunt's speech at the Ivor Novello Music Awards in England last week when he told critics what to do if they were sick of his tunes.

"You're all adults, you can switch the radio off," he said..

But for listeners of Essex FM it wasn't enough just to turn the radio off - they didn't want him to be on the radio at all. Program controller Chris Cotton told UK newspaper the Independent, "Quite often there will be popular artists that people are starting to grow weary ofÖthis time the number of specific comments about James Blunt were more than we have ever seen for one particular artist."

Since the release of Blunt's debut album Back to Bedlam he's sold 10 million copies around the world and his singles have topped the charts, gaining lots of airplay worldwide.

But Essex FM maintains that the decision was made in response to their listeners' requests and didn't intend any ill will towards Blunt.

"He has a unique sound and is an honest songwriter. That's the sort of combination that makes someone stand out, but people also tend to tire of that sound. We don't have anything against James Blunt and we're pleased he has been so successful, but we really need a break," said Cotton.

wow it is crazy what people will do. I am personally a big time James Blunt fan and i never get tried of his wonderful music. but there is lots of music that get played over and over again that i do not like. Baning his music b/c he is too succesful just isn't the right thing to do.
