New Music Download Site a Musician's Dream

Published: 2006-05-30
Typically sites selling music to download have been aimed at music listeners from all over the globe but a new site is setting themselfves apart by targeting those who make music.

http://www.dreammusician.com takes elements of popular songs and removes them from the original tune; for example taking the drums out of a song so that a drummer could insert their own flair into the tune. Or a musician can just download the drum part to be able to study it more closely to play like their favourite drummer.

The site is in cooperation with Universal Mmusic so if you're favourite artist or band is signed to Sony BMG then you're probably out of luck. But the library of music is still vast including the likes of Elton John and Marvin Gaye. The site currently contains about 500 tracks from 50 titles,. Aaccording to the website, "Every week we plan to add at least 5 additional songs (50 tracks). By the end of 2006 we project having more than 1000 songs (10 000 tracks) from major and indie labels.

Though they have the major label tracks, the site is still looking for indie bands to contribute their stuff for other musicians to download.

Downloads are $2 a piece for the Wwindows Mmedia files, higher than the typical 99 cent download because "of the significant engineering costs required for music" the site says.
