Bob Dylan: On The Other Side of the Mic

Published: 2006-05-26
Legendary folk rocker Bob Dylan is hosting his own satellite radio show, playing various types of music, most of it dating back before his own songs were on the air.

The show, entitled "Theme Time Radio Hour" is a mix of 20th-century music, commentary and interviews and is aired on XM Satellite Radio. Dylan, who recently celebrated his 65th birthday, does not play his own music, but rather, chooses songs based on a new theme each week. This week's theme, baseball, included songs such as "Baseball Boogie" by Mabel Scott and "The Wizard of Oz" by Sam Bush.

Listeners are entertained by his timeless yet obscure choices in music and amused by his silly sense of humour. "If diamonds are a girl's best friend, why do so many girls get mad when you want to go to the ballpark?" This is simply a sample of the comments Dylan makes during his show and one of the reasons it seems to remind listeners of the classic radio shows that played in the 1950s.

Subscribers to XM Satellite Radio can hear Dylan's show on Wednesdays at 10am ET.
