MIA Kept from US Borders

British-Sri Lankan singer MIA has been denied entry into the United States. According to the artist's latest Myspace posting, U.S. immigration officials are not allowing her to enter the country to work on her new album.

In her token slang, MIA states, "Im locked out they wont let me in÷for now ill keep reportin from the sidelines, to my people who walk wiv me in the America, dont forget we got the internet!"

MIA, whose real name is Maya Arulpragasam, gave no reason on the website why U.S. officials would not allow her into the country. However, the singer, known for her provocative lyrics, has mentioned her father's association with the Tamil Tigers in songs and interviews. The revolutionary group from Sri Lanka has been classified as a terrorist organization in the United States, Britain, India and most recently, Canada.

MIA was set to work on her forthcoming album with popular hip-hop producer Timbaland. Her debut album, Arular, was released in March 2005 and was a blend of hip-hop, Jamaican dancehall, southern crunk, electro and rap. Critics raved over the album's addictive dance beats and politically-charged lyrics and many hailed it the best album of 2005.
