Red Hot Chili Peppers Heat Up the Billboard Charts

Published: 2006-05-18
For the first time in their career Cali rockers the Red Hot Chili Peppers have hit number one on the Billboard 200 chart with their brand new release Stadium Arcadium.

There was initially some concern about album sales when the record leaked onto the internet days before its release. Chili Pepper Flea expressed sadness over the leak saying, "If you download it now off one of these file sharing sites you will be getting a pale imitation of the record. It will be of the poor sound quality of the technique they used to get it on there and that will break my heart."

However the next day, after calming down, the group's bassist said that it was brought to his attention that people downloading the album were likely just excited fans who couldn't wait to hear their new stuff.

Though it will never truly be known whether the leak had a positive or negative effect on sales the Chili Peppers did manage to sell 442,000 copies of their double album in the first week of sales.

Prior to this the band's highest charting album was their 2002 record By the Way.
