Bob Marley's Family Wins in Court

Former bassist for the Wailers Aston Barrett lost a lawsuit worth $113.6 million (US) against Island Records and the Marley Family.

Barrett played with Bob Marley's band for 10 years and sued the family in March alleging that he and his brother Carlton who also played in the band were owed royalties for songs he wrote with the reggae legend. On the other hand the Marley family claimed that after a 1994 court settlement Barrett surrendered those rights for several hundred thousand dollars.

London's High Court sided with the Marley and dismissed the lawsuit. According to a statement reported in Billboard the family said, "We always felt this would be the outcome, and it was hard to listen to Aston Barrett reduce his friend Bob to someone who was more interested in playing football than making music."
