Bono's Red Campaign Goes Mobile

Published: 2006-05-16
Bono has recently put together a new project to help in the AIDS epidemic in Africa by making money from cell phone calls and text messaging in the UK. Bono's approach is to harness the corporate dollar to help support the world's poor over a millionaire's latest house.

Motorola and other British major cell phone networks have come together to support Bono's efforts. A 5% cut of revenue from calls and texts made from a specially launched red Motorola handset will be donated to the Global Fund. Further, another $24 of the purchase prize of the ultra-slim phones will go to fight AIDS, malaria and TB for the Red Campaign.

Bono told reporters, "I think trade in the end is the way out [for Africa] and the developing can really change the world for somebody who needs their world to be changed."
