Tom Petty Stops Scalpers

Published: 2006-05-12
Concert goes are all too familiar with the fact that the price to see their favourite band may be higher than the number on the ticket. Scalpers know all the tricks to get the best seats for top rate shows and then sell them off to the highest bidder.

Now musician and chart topper Tom Petty is doing his best to put a stop to scalping.

After complaints from fans that many of the tickets designated for fan club members were later showing up on scalper sites for much higher prices Petty worked with Ticketmaster, a site administrator and his management to identify and cancel 600 tickets that were being resold. According to Billboard those tickets will now be re-sold to fan members.

Another 800 tickets to Petty's New York show will also be voided and resold.

To avoid future mishaps, according to Billboard, concert promoter Jam plans to have the best seats picked up only at the box office of the venue and only by the person who purchased the tickets, with proper ID. Though it may take a little more time to get into the venue, most fans likely won't mind the inconvenience to keep their tickets out of scalper's hands.
