Franz Ferdinand Announce Hiatus

Published: 2006-05-08
Since the release of their debut, self-titled album in 2003, Franz Ferdinand have been pretty much everywhere, so it's probably about time for the UK-based band to take a bit of a break.

After playing a couple of UK music fests this summer, the band has announced they will be taking a breather. Front man Alex Kapranos told NME, "we have been on the road or in the studio continuously for three years and I think everyone needs to spend some time with their wives or their girlfriends and live a bit of an ordinary life again."

But Franz fans need not worry, because the band does not plan to make this hiatus a permanent one. In fact, Kapranos says the break will actually help them write for their third album.

"I feel that if I kept this life on the road and nothing else then I'd have nothing to write about because I would only have this to draw on - and that's a pretty vacuous subject."

If you want to catch them before their break they'll be at T in the Park, the Oxygen festival, and The Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festivals.
