The Dears are A 'Gang of Losers'

Montreal indie rock band the Dears are heading in a different direction with their new record.

The MontrČal based group hit the scene in 2000 with their debut album End of a Hollywood Bedtime Story. Since then the band has undergone a few lineup changes, the only constant member being Murray Lightburn.

According to the band's MySpace profile, the normally orchestral group has toned it down on this record. "It is somewhat of a stripped down, raw affair. There is french horn in 2 songs and saxophone in another. Though there is some mellotron-ny stuff, there are no real violins, violas or cellos," read an entry on the web page.

But just because they've stripped down the sound doesn't mean they've lost anything. "As clichČ as this may sound, it's by far the 'best work we've ever done.' But seriously, it doesn't sound like anything else and it's pretty relentless."

Right now the record is set to hit stores at the end of August. Here's the track listing for the upcoming record:

"Sinthtro"
"Ticket To Immortality"
"Death Or Life We Want You"
"Hate Then Love"
"There Goes My Outfit"
"Bandwagoneers"
"Fear Made The World Go 'Round"
"You And I Are A Gang Of Losers"
"Whites Only Party"
"Ballad Of Humankindness"
"I Fell Deep"
"Find Our Way To Freedom"

Though the Dears plan to do a full-out Canadian tour in September, they also have a few festival dates lined up for the summer, including the Coachella Festival in California, The Tulip Festival in Ottawa, the Montreal Jazz Festival, Canada Day in Toronto, and the V Festival in the UK.
