Smashing Pumpkins Plan to Reunite

Published: 2006-04-24
It's official! Influential nineties alternative rockers the Smashing Pumpkins are back.

Put quite simply on the band's official website, a statement read, "It's official, The Smashing Pumpkins are currently writing songs for their upcoming album, their first since 2000. No release date has yet been set, but the band plans to begin recording this summer."

The vague news gives no details on which members of the band will be involved in the new project, though it was discovered in February that lead singer Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin signed a new management deal under the Smashing Pumpkins name. Whether or not other original band members James Iha and D'arcy Wretzky will be in on the new album is unclear, as relations between them and Corgan had become strained since the split in 2000.

The first whisperings of this reunion came in June 2005 on the release day of Billy Corgan's solo album TheFutureEmbrace. On that day Corgan put out a full page ad in the Chicago Tribune to announce plans to reunite the band.

The Pumpkin's last release was MACHINA/The Machines of God which came out in 2000.

I hope they do get back together.
I also heard from a reliable radio station that they were supposed to play at Coachella this year (they even claimed it was official), but it seems that nowhere that announcement is supported, not even on the Coachella website. Could it be false?
