Iggy Regroups the Stooges

Though the band garnered little commercial success, the Stooges, fronted by Iggy Pop, were definitely an influential band in both heavy metal and punk rock genres.

So fans and musicphiles alike are rejoicing that the Iggy and co. are back, putting together their first album since 1973's Raw Power. The band did back Iggy on a few tunes for his 2003 release Skull Ring but this is the first all Stooges album released in over thirty years.

The Stooges are eliciting help from former Nirvana producer Steve Albini and White Stripe and Raconteur Jack White.

Though their sound in the seventies garnered much critical praise they're not sticking to what they did in the past, according to Billboard. Pop says, "We experimented a lot. We're stubborn people. We could have just started out and in 10 minutes we would have sounded like us, but that would have been too easy. We'd have these get-togethers every two or three months for four or five days and bang out stuff. As time went on, it started to sound more and more like us."

After finishing the upcoming album, which has neither a title nor a release date, the band will likely hit the road.
