June Pointer dies at 52

June Pointer, best known for being a member of the Pointer Sisters passed away April 11 in California.

The Pointer Sisters lit up the pop charts in the 70's and 80's with hits like "I'm So Excited" and "Slow Hand". Though they started as a duo made up of June and her sister Bonnie they soon grew to include all the sisters in the family when their other two sisters Ruth and Anita joined the group. Bonnie left the group to pursue a solo career in 1977 and June later in the eighties.

June Pointer recorded some solo material after splitting from her sisters but never matched the success of the group.

She passed away from an undisclosed type of Cancer on April 11, she was 52 years old. According to the Associated Press "She died in the arms of her sisters, Ruth and Anita and her brothers, Aaron and Fritz, by her side," the family statement read."Although her sister, Bonnie, was unable to be present, she was with her in spirit."
