Dave Matthews Band gets back on 'Trax'

Published: 2006-04-12
Just in time for summer, luminary jam rockers the Dave Matthews Band have announced plans to release a fifth installment in their Live Trax series.

The title of the new release - 8.23.1995 Meadow Brook Music Festival, Rochester Hills, MI - more or less sums up the band's latest offering, which was originally recorded during the Under the Table and Dreaming Tour. More than a decade later, the band has decided to revive the performance, which is said to be a favourite amongst the band's crew members.

In the spirit of jam predecessors The Grateful Dead, Dave Matthews and Co. have become renowned for their live performances, which often feature inventive and impromptu jam sessions in the midst of album tracks and cover songs. For this reason, the band has garnered a cult following, sometimes referred to as 'Daveheads.'

According to the official DMB website, 8.23.1995 contains a number of musical treats that will distinguish it from past live releases. For one, the show features a six-song guest appearance by David Ryan Harris, guitarist for Dionne Farris' band.

In addition to a guest appearance, the set also includes a twelve-minute version of Bob Marley's "Exodus," a fifteen-minute rendering of Matthews standard "Jimi Thing," and a blistering encore offering of Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower."

8.23.1995 is currently available for pre-order on the band's official website, and shipping will begin as of May 12. Fans are given the option of purchasing the concert as either a 2-CD set or a digital download in MP3 format.
