Diana Krall Helps Raise Over $800 ,000 For Leukemia

Published: 2004-03-08
The benefit performance by Diana Krall, husband rocker Elvis Costello, and Sir Elton John brought more than twice what Krall had hope to raise ($350,000) for the leukemia program at Vancouver General Hospital on Friday night. The benefit – which included a pre-show auction – raised over $800,000.

Krall began performing benefits for the leukemia center after her mother became a patient in the program. To date Krall has raised over one million dollars for the program.

Sir Elton did not wait until the concert to make his presence known. John participated in the auction bidding on a diamond cross. John also offered to play "Tiny Dancer" and a pair of tickets to the White Ball held at his London home for a donation of $50,000.

The concert performance lasted over two hours and the audience saw Krall perform a duet with Sir Elton. Krall and husband Elvis Costello performed a duet for only the second time in public. The evening ended with Sir Elton John, Diana Krall, and Elvis Costello performing together singing "Making Whoopee".

The intimate setting of the small venue sent the message Krall had hoped – one of love and caring. Krall's sister and father were also in attendance at the benefit.
