Gnarls Barkley Digitally tops the charts

Published: 2006-04-07
Musical duo Gnarls Barkley have made history by being the first artists to top the UK charts based on digital downloads alone.

The duo is composed of hip hop artist Cee-Lo and producer DJ Danger Mouse (who created the infamous Grey album, a mash up between Jay-Z's Black album and the Beatles White album). Their chart topping hit Crazy is an insanely catchy track featured on their upcoming release St. Elsewhere.

The album, which is due out in Canada on May 9, was preceded by the digital release of the single due to "significant airplay," according to a press release. Since then the single has gone on to sell 31,700 times, and has been receiving astronomical amounts of airplay.

The duo is set to hit the festival scene this summer, making appearances at both the Coachella and Lollapalooza festivals.
