Shirley Manson takes the Garbage out of her Music

Published: 2006-03-20
Rocker chick Shirley Manson has started work on her first project without her former band Garbage.

After fronting the rock group for ten years Manson and her bandmates Duke Erickson, Steve Marker, and Butch Vig decided to take an indefinite hiatus from the band at the end of 2005.

Coming together in the mid-nineties the band has released hits like "Stupid Girl," "Push it" and "#1 Crush," which was featured on the Romeo and Juliet Soundtrack. Their most recent album was 2005's Bleed Like Me.

Recently Manson was in London with composer David Arnold, whom she worked with on the theme to the 1999 double-oh-seven flick The World Is Not Enough. Though the two have already finished one song she told Billboard she's in no rush. "I've got no timetable. I'm sort of sick of timetables, to be honest," she says. "I just want to live my life a little freely and not adhere to any schedule -- just make music and have fun."

She also mentioned that although she's started to record without her Garbage bandmates, that doesn't mean it will stay like that forever. Manson stresses that this isn't a breakup, it's simply a break.

"We're still together," she said, adding, "absolutely".
