Marleyís Ex-Bassist Sues for Royalties

Published: 2006-03-17
Bob Marley's former bassist is suing his family and former record label for his share of Marley's royalties.

Aston Barrett played bass in The Wailers for nearly ten years, and his late brother Carlton also played drums in the band. According to E! Online, "Barrett is seeking $105 million from the Marley family and Island-Universal Records Ltd. based on royalties from a 1974 contract with the label, plus earnings from songs he co-wrote with Marley."

60 year-old Barrett claims he and other members of the band were promised equal shares of royalties by Bob Marley, but the Marley family claims that Barrett surrendered those rights after a 1994 settlement.

Barrett, of all people, should know a thing or two about family disputes. Now in his sixties, the ex-bassist is commonly known as "Family Man" or "Fams" because believe it or not, he has fathered "no fewer than 52 children."
