Armchair Cynics Scores Another for British Columbia

Published: 2006-03-13
Armchair cynics are yet another alt-rock Canadian band, but what make this band stand out from the shadows of alt-rock juggernauts Our Lady Peace and I Mother Earth? This quartet might sound like their rock 'n' roll peers, but what makes them different is that they stand out for their originalityˇenough originality to get these guys on the Canadian musical map.

The Armchair Cynics are from Victoria, British Columbia (home of Nelly Furtado and Hot Hot Heat). Their indie LP, Coffehouse Confessions, which was released in May of 2003, made the band a moving blip on the Canadian rock scene. The band has already won some accolades for Confessions including winning Vancouver Island's Bandfest, as well as picking up numerous M Power awards. Their new EP, Killing The Romance, which is already stirring up quite a commotion for the Cynics, was released through 604 Records last summer. With Ken Coutu and Adam Sutherland on vocals and guitar, Aran on bass and Ryan Rae on drums, there is no telling where their long hard rock journey might end up. The band just played in their hometown and finished up a Canadian tour in support of Killing The Romance. Upcoming shows have yet to be announced, but keep checking back with Soul Shine for concert dates and information.
