The Big Apple hosts the Green Apple

Published: 2006-03-13
A whole slew of musicians are getting together in more than 30 of New York's premiere concert venues to celebrate Earth Day with a bang.

Held from April 20-23, the Green Apple festival will coincide with Earth Day New York. The event will start off with the Jammy Awards, a play on the Grammys. The Jammys honour "jam bands" or artists who are primarily known for live, improvisational music. The Jammys will take place on April 20 at Madison Square Gardens and feature performances by Blues Travaller, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, and Guster.

The remainder of Green Apple fest will take place all over New York, from BB King's, the theatre at Madison Square Gardens, and Carnegie Hall, to famed punk venue CBGB. These venues will be filled by artists such as Ben Taylor, DJ Logic, Dresden Dolls, Guster, Great Big Sea, and Peter Frampton. Along with the music there will also be a film festival held on April 23 at the Linder Theatre, located in the Museum of Natural History.
