Ani DiFranco returns early from hiatus

Published: 2006-03-10
Last July folk singer-songwriter Ani Difranco vowed to take a year off from her tireless touring schedule after being diagnosed with tendonitis. But less than a year later, it seems that DiFranco has spent enough time off, and is ready to return to the road.

Aside from her folksy style of music, DiFranco is known for her seemingly endless stream of work, releasing albums nearly every year since she started recording in the nineties. When she's not recording, DiFranco spends nearly all of her time on the road touring in support of her vast catalogue.

On April 24 DiFranco will be making her first appearance back on stage at a show in Columbia, Missouri. She will also be making a stop at the first Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina tore through the region.

With all that time off, sources say DiFranco has been busy recording tracks for an album which should be out later this year.

Following that release she'll stay off the road again until July, when she will make a couple of stops in Alberta.

Here are the details for all you Westerners:

July 28, Edmonton, AB - Frances Winspear Centre
July 30, Calgary, AB - Calgary Folk Festival
