Pavarotti's Swan Song stops in Canada

Published: 2006-03-09
At the end of 2004 Italian opera singer - and one of the three tenors whose name you know - Luciano Pavarotti announced his farewell tour.

The tenor is generally considered the most popular opera singer in the world, and is revered amongst both opera fans and laymen alike. His album In Concert with two other tenors (Pl·cido Domingo and JosČ Carreras) is the world's best-selling classical album.

So far Pavarotti has announced only 16 tour dates, including stops in Sarajevo, Vienna, Lisbon and Zurich in April, Helsinki and Oslo in May, three dates in the UK in July, and Budapest in August.

Just recently Pavarotti announced five North American tour dates, four of which are in Canada, and the lone American stop being in Washington. Tickets for all five dates will go on sale March 11.

Nevertheless, rumors persist that Pavarotti's final on-stage performance will either be held in New York, where he got his first big break, or in his home country of Italy. Unfortunately for all you Pavarotti-heads, we cannot confirm or deny such rumours at this time.

If you're in the mood for a bit-o-opera, here's where you can check out the legend:

June 3 - Montreal, QC - Bell Centre
June 6 - Toronto, ON - Air Canada Centre
June 11 - Calgary, AB - Pengrowth Saddledome
June 16 - Vancouver, BC - GM Place
