Metallica Offers Downloadable Concerts

Published: 2004-03-03
The record companies may be losing money and CD sales may be down, but bands like Metallica have found a way to take advantage of the internet and the intense interest by music fans to download music. For years Metallica have had a portion of their shows where they allowed concert goers to make a tape of the show. Using the internet was just the next logical step. Metallica is offering unedited copies of their concerts for sale at Concerts are available in MP3 format for US$9.95 and FLAC for US$12.95. Concerts will be available approximately four days after the actual show. The first concert on the current North American segment took place on March 2. With each show the band is also offering a booklet to print and labels for fans who want to burn the concert onto a CD.

And just to make things interesting – for fans and the band – Metallica is promising to play a different set list at each show; which will include songs the band has not performed live in many years. With a different set list each night, Metallica fans who download the concerts could literally hear everything the band knows how to play.
